Yahoo! expands sales as traditional advertisers sign up

LONDON - Yahoo! UK & Ireland has expanded its UK advertising team with two new appointments and several promotions, as the internet firm sees advertising budget shifting away from traditional media to online properties.

Yahoo! has recruited former Radio Times display sales executive Joanne Kilshaw as account manager for agency sales, with the job of working with mainstream media agencies to persuade advertisers to shift budget away from offline media.

The company has also recruited Universal McCann international research and strategy executive Fiona Khondoker as a strategy planner, as a reflection of the internet company's growing relationship with media agencies.

The restructure sees the formation of a new-business development and client sales division, to be headed by former business development manager Laurence Krieger. His job will be to build integrated client partnerships, as well as driving ad sales. Krieger reports to Yahoo! head of sales Nick Fawbert.

Alison Reay, director of UK sales at Yahoo!, said that the growth of the sales team confirmed that demand for online branding was on the up.

"Our recent deals with BT, McDonald's and Nissan have shown that the internet is attracting big traditional advertisers and is establishing itself as a mainstream branding, as well as direct response, medium. This experienced new sales team allows us to further drive sales on the internet and firmly establish online as the sixth medium," she said.

Other promotions at Yahoo! are: Teresa Pereira, who takes the new role of sales planning and trade relations manager; and Seamus Hunn, formerly head of client services and now responsible for UK sales operations.
