Yahoo! in display ad deal with Bebo

Yahoo! has signed a deal with Bebo to sell display advertising for the social networking site in the UK and Ireland.

Yahoo!'s UK media team, headed by Blake Chandlee, the commercial director, will now handle sales for Bebo, which has 11.6 million users in the UK and Ireland, predominantly in the 13- to 24-year-old age bracket.

As part of the deal, the two companies will also develop a new Bebo toolbar that will allow users to monitor their profiles while not on the site.

The partnership also means that Yahoo! Answers, the search engine's question and answer service that taps into the online community, will be integrated into Bebo UK. Bebo already hosts Yahoo!'s search services as part of a deal that was signed in May.

"This is a unique opportunity to add scale to our operations," Chandlee said.

The deal has been designed to free Bebo's in-house sales team to concentrate on increasing revenues from brand sponsorship, including sponsored profile pages.
