Keaveny will present 'The Dream Ticket' 10.00pm-1.00am slot Monday-Thursday. The Dream Ticket picks headline performances and exclusive BBC sessions from the BBC archives, as well as enabling listeners to request classic recordings or to give live gig reviews from around the country.
Keaveny said: "I have, like most sane broadcasters, always dreamed of eventually working for what is now more than ever, the finest broadcasting institution in the world. 6 Music has long been a bastion of the best new music, and curator of the spirit of John Peel, so for a music lover, to use an hilarious pun, it's the dream ticket."
Keaveny has become a regular TV pundit for the likes of ITV1 and ITV2, Channel 4 and Five as well as the current narrator for E4's 'Stop Treating Me Like a Kid', 'Superheroes' for Sky One and Channel 4's 'Road to V'. He is also the new voice of Sky One.
At Xfm he is being replaced by Xfm Manchester's Paul Tonkinson. The stationhas also hired Virgin Radio's Steve Harris to host its new-music show 'Music: Response'.
Keaveny will join 6 Music in January. Xfm has yet to announce who will take over the Friday morning slot, although a spokeswoman said Lauren Laverne will continue to handle Monday-Thursday breakfast.
Tonkinson will take over the 1pm-4pm afternoon slot five days a week in the New Year. He is transferring from Xfm Manchester, where he has been hosting the breakfast show since the station launched in March, and his replacement will be announced shortly.
Steve Harris is joining Xfm in January after three years at Virgin, where he presents new music show 'The Edge' on Friday nights at 1am and is the lead presenter on Virgin's indie and rock-focused digital-only station Virgin Radio Xtreme.
Harris takes over 'Music: Response' as the permanent replacement for Ian Camfield, who moved to the 10am-1pm slot a few months ago.
Ande Macpherson, Xfm network programme director, said: "This is the strongest line-up Xfm has ever had. Tonks will add humour to our afternoons with a really exciting replacement lined up for him on breakfast in Manchester. Steve lives and breathes new music and will blow the speakers off the radio with exciting new bands every night."
