The X Factor pulls in the viewers for ITV1

Following a week of speculation about Simon Cowell's future on the terrestrial channel, 'The X Factor' reasserted its dominance of peaktime TV by pulling in more than 10 million viewers on Saturday and Sunday for ITV1.

On Saturday, the programme attracted an average audience of 10.78 million between 7.30pm and 8.45pm on ITV1 and ITV1 HD, a 45% share of the TV-watching audience. It reached a five-minute peak of 12.1 million at 8.20pm.

The weekend’s second instalment of ‘The X Factor’ reached an average audience of 11.58 million between 7.45pm and 9pm on ITV1 and ITV1 HD, a 42% share of the TV-watching audience. The peak audience was 13.2 million.

The talent show has attracted for all but one of its six episodes so far, following the on 21 August.

BBC One’s Saturday night competition, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, is taking a three-week break to allow the celebrities to practise their routines, ahead of the first live show on 1 October.

‘Merlin’, the fantasy drama, attracted an average audience of five million between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on BBC One on Saturday night, a 20.9% share of the TV-watching audience.

‘Joe Maddison’s War’, part of ITV’s new season of drama and starring Kevin Whately, recorded an average audience of 6.15 million between 9pm and 11pm last night, a 26.8% share of TV watchers and the most-watched show during that time.

‘The Special Relationship’, the third collaboration between writer Peter Morgan and his on-screen Tony Blair, actor Michael Sheen, was watched by an average of 1.05 million people across BBC One and BBC HD.

The follow up to ‘The Queen’ and ‘The Deal’, looked at the relationship between Blair and Bill Clinton, from the early days of New Labour to the Kosovo crisis. It took a 5.6% share of the TV watching audience.
