WPP's MediaCom buys out MediaCom North

LONDON – WPP Group has taken complete control of MediaCom North, now wholly owned by MediaCom, after it snapped up the 81% of the agency it did not previously own.

WPP did not disclose how much it paid for the remaining stake in the agency, which is run by its three managing partners Andy Bartholomew, Declan McKenna and Paul Wheeler.

The move comes a year after WPP finalised its $1.7bn acquisition of Grey Global, which brought it the MediaCom global network.

The 45-strong Manchester-based agency was founded in 1996 and became part of the MediaCom network in 1999.

For the year ended April 30 2005, the agency's revenues were £3.64m and its net assets were £1.32m.

The agency has billings of around £40m and clients including Co-op, Century Radio and JD Williams.

In the UK, MediaCom also has operation in Scotland, which is based in Edinburgh.
