WPP appoints former Y&R chief to board

- WPP Group has appointed Steven Heyer, the former Young & Rubicam executive who is now president and chief operating officer of Turner Broadcasting System, to its board as a non-executive director.

- WPP Group has appointed Steven Heyer, the former Young & Rubicam executive who is now president and chief operating officer of Turner Broadcasting System, to its board as a non-executive director.

Prior to joining Turner in 1994, Heyer was president and chief operating officer of Young & Rubicam Advertising Worldwide.

He joins the WPP board as it completes its acquisition of Y&R. Before Y&R, he spent 15 years at Booz, Allen & Hamilton, where he was senior vice president and managing partner.

At Turner, a division of Time Warner, Heyer has overall responsibility for all of the primary product development, rights acquisition, revenue and cost streams for all Turner news, entertainment and sports operations and networks worldwide.

In his six years with the company, he has led TBS's sales and marketing, promotion, merchandising, licensing, direct marketing, event/sponsorship, product placement, place-based media and new media initiatives worldwide.
