WPP acquires Spanish TV firm behind S Club movie

LONDON - WPP Group has acquired a 30% stake in Spanish television company Mediapro, which specialises in TV rights and programme making and was behind the recent S Club movie 'Seeing Double'.

MediaPro, which is headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, was founded in 1994 and has operations in France, Portugal, Netherlands, Argentina, the US and Hungary. It employs more than 1,000 people and had revenues of €160m (£112.7m) for the year ended December 31 2002.

Mediapro co-produced the S Club movie with Double Vision Film, which was released shortly before chart-topping pop act split.

The acquisition of Mediapro strengthens WPP's media investment management interests, and continues the company's strategy of strengthening its networks in important markets and sectors.

In the UK, MediaPro has in the past worked with Carlton Communications on the development of programming for the Spanish market.

Mediapro's clients include: Sport Five, Sogecable, DTS Via Digital, Canal+ France, Sport TV Portugal and the major Spanish, Portuguese and French television stations.
