WPP acquires German sponsorship agency SponsorCom

LONDON – WPP Group has acquired 75% of German sponsorship firm SponsorCom, a deal designed to broaden the sponsorship capabilities of its media planning and buying network Mediaedge:cia.

SponsorCom employs 35 people and had revenues of €3.79m in the year to September 30, 2003. In addition to taking a majority stake in the firm, WPP has entered the option to acquire the remaining 25%.

As well as strengthening Mediaedge:cia, the purchase continues WPP's strategy of reinforcing its networks in important growth sectors and markets.

Based in Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, SponsorCom's clients include E-ON and TUI Travel.
