The World: New York - Martin Agency and MediaVest win Wal-Mart brief

Wal-Mart, the biggest retailer in the US, has opted to keep the creative assignment within the Interpublic Group. It has appointed the Martin Agency to handle its $570 million account.

This news comes five weeks after Wal-Mart's dramatic overturning of its decision to hire the IPG-owned Draft/FCB. Wal-Mart blamed improprieties in the selection process, which led to the sacking of two senior marketing executives, Julie Roehm and Sean Womack. Both denied any wrongdoing.

Carat was invited to repitch for the media planning and buying assignment, but it was beaten by Publicis Groupe's MediaVest.

The Martin Agency, which is based in Richmond, Virginia, is best known for its Geico insurance and United Parcel Service ads.
