The World: Amsterdam - Ad watchdog bans alcohol ads on MTV channels

The Dutch advertising watchdog covering the alcoholic drinks industry has banned alcohol advertising on channels operated by MTV Networks.

The one-year ban, administered by the industry-funded Foundation for Responsible Alcohol Consumption, applies to the MTV, Nickelodeon, The Box, TMF and Jetix channels.

The ban follows the publication of annual research showing that more than 25 per cent of MTV Networks viewers are less than 18 years old.

Dutch self-regulation rules governing alcohol consumption mean that the channels can no longer legally carry alcohol advertising.
