What is it like to work in the medical division at Haymarket Media Group?

GPOnline, MIMS, MIMS Learning and Medeconomics all provide healthcare professionals with the tools they need to deliver the best possible patient care while developing their own careers. Their brand mission is to ensure GPs and other healthcare professionals use their content regularly to help them in their day-to-day roles, while driving forward long and short term revenue goals.

But what is it like to work in the medical division at Haymarket Media Group and why should you seriously consider a career in this department?

We spoke to Alice French, head of marketing at Haymarket Media Group’s medical division, about her experience working in the medical division and how you can become part of the team.

What are your main responsibilities within the team?

As head of the marketing team, it’s my job to ensure as many healthcare professionals, especially GPs and related roles, are aware of and using our products as possible, in order to drive up revenue and contribution from our user-paid content and live events.

What is it like to work in the medical team?

The Haymarket medical team is a close-knit and supportive group of experienced and knowledgeable experts. It’s a great experience working with enthusiastic people who know so much about their sector and are generous with their knowledge, and as a team, people are always looking for opportunities and ways to improve our products.

What attracted you to work for the medical division in the first place? Why did you apply for the job?

I started working at Haymarket in the medical division when an old colleague put me forward for the role, and recommended it to me as a great working environment with a lot of support and a lot of opportunities to learn and make the role my own.

What has been your best moment or proudest achievement whilst working in the medical team at Haymarket?

There’s been a lot! I think the medical live events are always a great experience to look back on - the whole team comes together to deliver the event to the highest possible standard on the day, and it’s great to hear all the fantastic feedback we get from clients and GPs afterwards. Plus, launching the new MIMS Learning subscription a year ago and watching our membership grow was really satisfying to see.

Do you need prior knowledge of the medical industry to work in this division?

It definitely helps to have a bit of awareness, particularly of the primary care market, but that’s also something you can pick up on the job - there’s so much knowledge around the team. I’d say it’s more important to have the right skills and most of all the right attitude. Roles in this division work best for people who are always asking questions and looking for ways to learn and improve.

For anyone thinking of applying for a job in your team, what is one piece of advice you would give them?

Do it! It’s a great opportunity to take ownership of a role, and really turn it into your own. I’d say come with some ideas about how you’d like to apply your own experience and skillset to the medical market, and how you’d create growth.
