The contract, worth £1.5m, will see Wilson Vale cater for events at College Court Conference Centre which will open in October 2013.

A team of 13 Wilson Vale staff will provide a breakfast, lunch, dinner and hospitality service for visitors to the 123-bed conference centre, as well as catering events.

The building is a former hall of residence and is being transformed into Leicester’s first residential conference centre though a £14m investment.

Andrew Wilson, managing director of Wilson Vale, said: "The university has breathed new life into the building. It is Grade II listed and designed by the famous 1960s architects Sir Leslie Martin and Trevor Dannatt, so we will be echoing in our food offer quirky 60s ideas to reflect the culture and heritage of the building."

Wilson Vale plans to recruit university students as casual catering staff. Steven Crawford, conference centre director, said: "We call this ‘earn and learn’, where our students can not only get valuable work experience but will be given an opportunity to develop their life and social skills within a busy and vibrant catering environment."
