Orr was promoted from director of marketing and insight to his current role in October 2012, adding responsibility for growing British Gas’ customer base. In July this year he launched the brand "me" — for which he is general manager — centred on an app targeting customers in their 20s who live in rented accommodation.
A regular on the conference circuit, Orr has been building his profile steadily. But he will no doubt be grateful he was not part of BT’s Twitter Q&A in October, which was overwhelmed by complaints about price hikes.
