Wieden & Kennedy's Honda spot cleans up at the BTAA and Creative Circle

Wieden & Kennedy's "grrr" spot for Honda's diesel engine won handsomely at the British Television Advertising Awards last night. The commercial picked up the top honour in the TV Commercial of the Year category, in addition to winning three other golds.

It has been a good week for the animated ad, which also claimed the top gong at Monday night's Creative Circle awards. The ad was written and art directed by Richard Russell, Sean Thompson and Michael Russoff.

But it was Bartle Bogle Hegarty - with work for Levi's, KFC and Lynx - that was named the BTAA Agency of the Year.

The jury chairman, Tony Davidson, the creative director of Wieden & Kennedy, noted that his jury "would like to have seen more originality.

Obvious influences were The Office and retro 70s kitsch. Many of last year's winners were vying for a place on the podium with new executions of the same idea."

Daniel Kleinman, hailed by the BTAA board for his "unique ability to tackle any genre - a master of all trades", walked away with the Chairman's Award.

Outsider, which produced spots for Levi's, The Guardian, Capital Radio and Pot Noodle, was named Production Company of the Year for the first time.
