Why the RAF created a large-scale VR experience

The Royal Air Force has created a VR recruitment experience to give people the chance to see what going on a mission is like.

The activation launched at the RAF Cosford air show on June 10 alongside its 100-year anniversary celebrations. It is the first time that a VR experience has been created for the armed forces on this scale.

Squadron leader Nige Bell said: "It is not just a chance to go behind the scenes of an RAF operation, but to actually feel what it’s like to be a member of the RAF team; to actively carry out mission duties all over the world.

"Our ability to maintain air power for the next 100 years depends on inspiring the next generation of RAF personnel including; engineers; intelligence analysts; cyberspace communication specialists."

The experience has been created by agency M-is. Its creative director John Young explained: "This is the closest most people will ever get to flying in a real Chinook, or servicing an F-35 and that’s a powerful and memorable attraction – one that will stay with them for a long time after."
