Grey is understood to have landed its first assignment in this
country for the pharmaceuticals giant, Whitehall Laboratories, by
picking up the pounds 3 million creative advertising account for the
famous Anadin painkiller brand.
Whitehall pulled the account from Publicis last November so that the
agency could concentrate on introducing a new analgesic - Advil - from
the US.
Since then, Whitehall has been talking to a number of agencies,
including Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters, Young and Rubicam, which held the
Anadin brand until 1995, and Grey. Y&R and Grey both handle brands in
the US for Whitehall’s parent, American Home Products.
Grey may have gained an edge by hiring the former Y&R chairman, Clive
Holland, last November. Although Holland was taken on as executive
vice-president in charge of BAT Industries worldwide, he is understood
to be close to top management at Whitehall.
Nigel Sharrocks, the managing director of Grey, refused to comment. But
other industry sources said Grey had picked up the business.
Media, which is handled by CIA Medianetwork, is unaffected by the
switch.
