WeTransfer's editorial platform WePresent has launched a short film starring rapper and actor Riz Ahmed, coinciding with the release of the artist's new album of the same name on Friday (6 March).
The harrowing 11-minute film confronts issues of racism in a post-Brexit Britain, and depicts men in black balaclavas wearing emblems of St George's cross as they shoot and kill British-Pakistani Ahmed and his family.
"The record is a breakup album, but with your country," Ahmed says. "So many of us feel like we’re being dumped by the place we call home, a home that we built. It’s heartbreaking, and enraging, like the end of a toxic, abusive relationship. This album takes you on the journey of this breakup: through the stages of denial, anger, acceptance, and finally the self-love necessary to counter the hate."
WePresent aims to showcase itself as a creative platform for artists, photographers and musicians alike. The work was created by Ahmed and Aneil Karia.
