Fitness First - The nearest club to you is Hammersmith. There's also Shepherds Bush, which is a mile away. South Kensington, Clapham Junction and Acton are under 2.5 miles.

Mktg - So if I joined one of the gyms, could I use the others?

Fitness First - Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush are Blue Label, as well as Clapham Junction and Acton. South Kensington is Black Label, so you wouldn't be able to use it.

Mktg - What's the membership cost of Blue Label? Someone told me that if I sign up this month I get the first month free.

Fitness First - We don't have that information. It would be at the club. Lifestyle Reciprocal, which means you can use the other Blue Labels, is £44.95.

Mktg - Does that allow you to do spin classes and things like that?

Fitness First - It depends on the club. A lot of classes are free. Some of them are priced as they have private trainers. So there might be a discounted fee.

Mktg - Do you think its better for me to go along to the club?

Fitness First - Yes. If you pay for 10 months upfront, you get the last two months free. You also get a package called Body First which gives you free personal-training sessions.

Mktg - OK, so what's the best thing to do?

Fitness First - Give them a call and find out what you need to before you sign anything. I don't know if you can sign up to Body First at the club, so if you can't, give us a call back.

Verdict

The call-handler was friendly and able to answer most of my questions. However, she pointed out that I would need to contact my nearest club for specific details on membership. She flagged up the Body First package but avoided taking the ‘hard sell' line.
