Apple - Thank you for calling Apple Care, may I please have your name?
Mktg - Hi, yes (provides name).
Apple - And are you calling about a problem with an ipod?
Mktg - Yes.
Apple - Ok, do you have the serial number?
Mktg - I don't at the moment. It's not actually the iPod itself, it's the iTunes library on my computer. When I try to purchase a song I get a message saying 'Could not purchase "song name". There is not enough memory available. There was an error in the itunes store. Please try again later.' I've tried restarting my computer, but the message still comes up.
Apple - So there's no problem with your iPod, it's just iTunes?
Mktg - Yes. I'm not sure if it's an issue other people are experiencing or not.
Apple - I don't know, I haven't heard of anything.
Mktg - I haven't checked any of the forums yet. I probably should have.
Apple - Let me have a look. The only thing I can think of in terms of memory is that when you download and purchase something it gets saved to the hard drive of your computer. Are you using a mac or Windows?
Mktg - I've got a laptop that runs Windows. It's quite new and I don't have many songs on there at the moment, so it couldn't really be anything to do with memory.
Apple - Ok, I'm just looking at all the emerging issues. [Mktg holds].
Apple - Nothing, I'm afraid. The only thing I could think of doing is de-authourising and then authorising the computer.
Mktg - I've got iTunes 7.5. Is there a newerversion I could try downloading?
Apple - There is a newer one, yes. I would definitely try updating it to 8.0.1.
Mktg - Ok. I just worried when I got the message that it might be a security issue on the account or something.
Apple - It wouldn't be a security issue. If it's mentioning memory, then it's got something to do with the storage of the song.
Mktg - So at the moment there's nothing on the forum about it?
Apple - No, I'm having a look now and there's nothing about it. I don't see any emerging issues on iTunes store memory loss, so there's nothing official. The other thing you could do is try emailing the iTunes store - if you go to its support website there will be a contact. But try updating iTunes first.
Mktg - I'll give it a go now. Thanks for your time.
Apple - No problem. Thanks, bye.
Verdict - The call handler was helpful and tried to answer my questions as clearly as she could. She was polite and confident about talking about anything apple-related. However, I found it strange that when I visiting the official apple forums page, there were numerous posts about 'memory' and the same problem I had faced, which she did not seem to have seen.
Score - 6/10
