Wegener DM UK suffers revenue hit

The direct marketing arm of Dutch media and marketing group Royal Wegener NV saw revenue fall by three per cent in 2004, with the UK branch contributing significantly to that loss.

Non-core activities were cited by Royal Wegener as being behind the losses in the UK. Many of these were inherited with the purchase of Dudley Jenkins in 2002 and have recently been sold or closed down.

The company's magazine polywrapping business, Magazine Mailing, and its catalogue company, Consumer Leads, have both been sold, while the B2B list management arm has folded.

However, David Perkins, chief executive of Wegener DM UK, pointed to the success of its consumer data business, which saw profits triple last year, as well as its data analysis division, which grew by 60 per cent.

"This is where the focus is and we have a team of strong people and excellent data," he added.

Two recent appointments include Caroline Kimber, former vice president of CACI, who joined as group marketing director, and Roy Barker, previously head of Carlson Marketing Group's international data planning and consultancy division. He now heads up Wegener DM's data analysis consultancy.
