Weekender: Radio Times' debut event, Chelsea catwalks and a classical exploration

A huge range of entertainment is on the cards this weekend (25-27 September), from a TV celebration with the Radio Times, to fashion shows and shopping with London Fashion Weekend, and of course, Rugby World Cup activations.

Radio Times Festival

Immediate Media title Radio Times has teamed up with Brand Events to host its inaugural festival celebrating all things TV, radio and literature. The event will take place at Hampton Court Palace and features big names in entertainment such as David Attenborough, Bruce Forsyth and Paul Hollywood.

Brands such as Sky, Waterstones, BBC and Evening Standard will be activating at the festival. ITV will also be there with a tent installation, which will include a chill-out area, free entertainment, popcorn and a showcase of the network’s upcoming autumn schedule.

Located for the , the younger sister of London Fashion Week features activity from brands such as headline sponsor Sunglass Hut, Maybelline New York and Toni & Guy.

Guests can shop designers at the event’s pop-up boutique, bag a FROW spot on the trend and designer catwalk shows, and attend talks from the likes of Anya Hindmarch, Mary Katrantzou and Henry Holland.

Rugby Fanzones

The Rugby World Cup continues into its second week this weekend, with seven matches taking place in Gloucester, Leeds, Birmingham, Twickenham and Wembley.

Tournament sponsors are activating at nearby Fanzones in Gloucester Docks, Millennium Square, Eastside Park, Old Deer Park and Wembley Park respectively. Each area includes a big screen, rugby activations, food and drink and entertainment.

Why Music? With BBC Radio 3

Classical music station BBC Radio 3 will be broadcasting live from the Wellcome Collection in London across the weekend. In total, 21 live events have been organised for visitors to either book or drop into, including performances from Gemma Cairney’s Body of Songs Project.

Why Music? aims to explore the power of music through a range of activities and talks. As part of the event, Radio 3 and the venue will be presenting an all-night world broadcast premiere of Max Richter’s eight-hour lullaby, Sleep.
