The Week: Twinings up for grabs after Lowe declines to repitch

Twinings has called a pitch for its £3 million advertising account, ending a two-and-a-half-year relationship with Lowe London.

The agency, which picked up the business in September 2005, declined to repitch.

Associated British Foods, Twining's parent company, awarded Lowe the account, which also includes advertising for Ovaltine and Options, following a final shoot-out against Mustoes. Fallon and Mortimer Whittaker O'Sullivan were involved at an earlier stage.

Lowe made a number of ads for the brand starring Stephen Fry, continuing a campaign created by the former incumbent, Leagas Delaney.

Last week, one of Lowe's ads was cleared by the Advertising Standards Authority of using the racial stereotype of a black man as sexually promiscuous.

Claire Hodge, the marketing director of Twinings, said: "The brand has greatly benefited from our time with Lowe but we feel that now is an appropriate time to review our approach."
