The Week: Starcom one of three in running for £15m Birds Eye brief

Birds Eye has shortlisted three agencies, including Starcom, for its £15 million UK media planning and buying account.

It is unclear whether the incumbent, MindShare, will be invited to repitch.

The media pitch is part of a wider company review led by Martin Glenn, the Birds Eye chief executive and former PepsiCo UK president.

Andy Beattie, the marketing director at Birds Eye, is handling the pitch.

Starcom is understood to have been in talks with Birds Eye since Unilever sold the business to the private equity group Permira six months ago. At the time, MindShare, which handles Unilever's pan-European media account, retained the account despite the sale of the company.

Last month, Birds Eye appointed The Big Kick as its direct marketing agency, and it is currently reviewing its trade marketing activity. Its creative account, held by Bartle Bogle Hegarty, is unaffected.
