The Week: Media news - TV licence fee Tory promise

David Cameron, the Tory leader, has said his party would freeze the BBC licence fee for one year if it were elected to power.

The price of the licence fee, which currently stands at £139.50, is linked to the rate of inflation until 2012. The BBC Trust responded by saying that cuts could put services at risk and would not be in the interests of licence-fee payers.
