The Week: Media news - Regulators to vet Canvas

Proposals from the BBC to join forces with ITV and BT to create a "next generation Freeview" are being scrutinised by regulators.

The venture, Project Canvas, will involve a set-top box with an open connection to the internet, bringing online on-demand viewing to TV screens. The alliance comes after the collapse of Project Kangaroo, the joint TV project between ITV, Channel 4 and BBC Worldwide, which was blocked by regulators due to the threat it posed to competition in the video-on-demand market.
