The Week: Media News - Lyons defends licence fee

Sir Michael Lyons, the chairman of the BBC Trust, has warned the Government and opposition parties that his organisation is ready to take on an "all or nothing" battle to protect the licence fee.

In a speech to media executives, Lyons said that he opposes David Cameron's proposal to freeze the fee at its current level of £139.50, and is also against the notion that the money should be used to help prop up other broadcasters, such as Channel 4.
