The Week: Media news - BBC online's £30m boost

The BBC Trust has given the green light to a £30.7 million increase in the BBC's online budget.

The budget rise, spanning three years, marks an increase of 27 per cent on its existing online spend, although it falls short of the £52.7 million the BBC requested last December. The Trust also gave the go-ahead to a £1.5 billion five-year budget, which includes a number of significant cutbacks. These will be made in part by reducing the fees it pays to top presenters, as well as freezing the pay of BBC senior management.
