The Week: Advertising News - Smith to tackle web issues

Lord Chris Smith, the new chairman of the Advertising Standards Authority, pledged to address public concerns about commercial claims on the internet at ISBA's annual lunch on Tuesday.

The internet was the fastest-growing source of complaints to the ASA, he said, but 90 per cent of these were concerned with editorial content, and thus fell outside of the ASA's remit. At the same event, ISBA promised to spend the next year promoting the positive role advertising has to play in society in a bid to fight back against rules that restrict it.
