This crowdfunded virtual reality film series was designed to help people living with Alzheimer's and their carers.

A group of creatives came together to make the pilot episode, which immerses viewers in moments from the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953, from watching the event on TV to the street party and games that followed. The film aims to help people with Alzheimer’s recall their own memories by bringing to life the sights and sounds of a positive moment from the past. It was shot over two days in North London with careful attention paid to recognisable details such as food, clothes and conversations from the day. A crowd-funding push on Kickstarter raised £35,000 for the project.

It was created by Dan Cole, Andy Garnett and Howard Green at Grey, and written and directed by Kevin Thomas through Thomas Thomas Films. It was produced by Emma Fasson, with VFX by MPC, editing by The Quarry and sound design by 750mph. 

The team is now seeking more partnerships and funding to make more films in The Wayback series, including recreating moments from the 1960s and 1970s.
