Watson heads bid for local DAB radio

GCap Media's former corporate development director, Gregory Watson, has led a bid for the latest local digital radio multiplex as part of a new consortium called MuxCo Home Counties.

The bid, submitted to Ofcom last Wednesday, comes from four local radio stations - Hertbeat FM, Herts Mercury 96.6, Mix 96 and Mix 107.

The owners of the stations, Shadow Radio Holdings, Adventure Radio and The Local Radio Company, have teamed up with Absolute Radio International and Watson's company MuxCo. If successful, they will launch local DAB digital radio in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire in April 2008, carrying digital simulcasts of five local services and four new digital-only stations.

Watson set up MuxCo in March, and has backing from two European businesses.
