Waterstone's mag to run ads for first time

BooksQuarterly, the magazine for bookseller Waterstone's, is to run third party ads for the first time and has signed Vision Express as its first commercial partner.

Until now, book publishers have taken all thirty ad pages in direct deals with the bookseller. Third-party ads will now appear on up to six of these pages in each edition.
Publisher Square One is upping the magazine's circulation from 100,000 to 150,000 following the 拢62.9m purchase of Ottakar's by Waterstone's parent company HMV Group in July.
The acquisition of Ottakar's, the second-biggest book retailer behind Waterstone's, has given the group a combined estate of 331 bookstores.
BooksQuarterly has a cover price of 拢2.50 and is given away free to customers who spend 拢20, but the retailer will trial the November edition at 拢1 in all stores in a bid to increase active purchases.
Square One has also changed the magazine's publishing schedule to fit advertisers' schedules more effectively. It will retain its January and September issues, but editions previously published in March and May will now appear in April and June.
