Start-ups interviewed included Drugstore Retail Lab, a collective helping to drive new thinking and solutions for the retail industry.
Will Mercer, head of strategy at Drugstore Retail Lab, said: "The Drugstore is a concept developed by Publicis to take the innovation of the start-up community to some of their biggest customers. The Drugstore Retail Lab is home to 20 businesses, attacking different areas of the retail spectrum; everything from operations through to in-store experience.
"We believe that by taking their technologies to existing brands, we can improve their performance and make them more innovative."
Trends identified included ideas around customer service, personalisation and location in relation to the new retail landscape.
