Waitrose reshuffles marketing in wake of Hodgson's departure

Waitrose has promoted director of marketing Rupert Thomas and moved its marketing function out of the commercial director's remit as part of changes prompted by the departure of Richard Hodgson to rival Morrisons.

Thomas has been promoted to the role of marketing director. His promotion includes a step up to the supermarket’s management board.

Hodgson took on the role of director of marketing in March last year, six years after joining Waitrose.

He helped develop Waitrose's value offering, Waitrose Essentials, and is also credited with leading the recent MCBD-created advertising campaign featuring celebrity chefs Delia Smith and Heston Blumenthal.

He recently featured in the number six position in .

As part of Waitrose's personnel reshuffle, supply chain director Mark Williamson takes on the role of commercial director. The role does not include responsibility for the marketing function, which Hodgson held.

Williamson joined Waitrose in 2004 as head of buying, grocery, before moving to the position of supply chain director in 2007.

Waitrose said an announcement on the new supply chain director was not expected for several weeks.
