Waitrose rejigs top roles as marketing chief exits

Waitrose is to restructure its marketing function following the resignation of marketing director Christian Cull, who will leave the retailer at the end of this month.

Tony Solomons, who has been with the retailer since 1982, latterly as supply chain director, has been handed a wider role that also encompasses business development. He will have the title of customer development director.

Waitrose confirmed Cull's departure and said he had secured a high-level marketing appointment outside of the retail sector.

His departure follows that of Andrew Woodward, marketing director of Waitrose's sister department-store chain, John Lewis, who left the company at the end of 2006 (Marketing, 15 November).

It is believed his role will be handed to commercial director Phil Hullah. John Lewis has appointed Gill Barr as acting marketing director to oversee the firm's upcoming marketing campaign produced by Lowe London.
