LONDON (Brand Republic) 鈥 Waheed Alli, head of Carlton鈥檚 TV production department and Labour peer, is to announce his departure today from the ITV company, just 18 months after it paid £15m for his production company Planet 24.
His decision to leave is thought to have been influenced by the recent appointment of Gerry Murphy as chief executive.
Murphy will today announce a restructuring at Carlton. His restructuring plans could see the broadcaster split into two divisions -鈥 broadcasting and production.
Lord Alli is also said to be keen to devote more time to the Labour Party as the next general election looms.
He created Planet 24 with Charlie Parsons and Bob Geldof. It is most renowned for creating The Big Breakfast and the hit US gameshow Survivor, which runs on the CBS network.
Although Carlton now owns The Big Breakfast, it did not buy the worldwide rights to Survivor. Those are held by Castaway Productions, another company owned by Lord Alli and Parsons.
Lord Alli has said he wants to spend more time developing what he describes as his 鈥£100m business鈥.
