W&K Amsterdam appoints interactive creative director

Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam is strengthening its digital credentials with the appointment of Joakim Borgstrom as its first interactive creative director.

Borgstrom joins from the Spanish interactive agency Double You, where he spent ten years, most recently as a partner. Since joining the agency, Borgstrom worked on high-profile campaigns for clients such as Diesel, Audi, Heineken, Nike and Coca-Cola. One of his most famous campaigns was the Madrid Bear website for the Madrid Nike Run in 2003.

The idea for the campaign was based on the urban legend that the bear from the famous Madrid statue had escaped. On the site, instead of sprinting away from the bear, a runner chases after him.

Al Moseley, the joint executive creative director of W&K Amsterdam, said: "Joakim's stellar reputation in interactive creativity precedes him.

"This is a significant hire and a bit of a coup for us; everyone wants a piece of him - he's a superstar.

"You don't get the opportunity to hire specialists of this calibre often."

John Norman, the other joint executive creative director, added: "Joakim's outstanding expertise will have substantial influence on our integrated work for clients across the board."

Borgstrom said: "Double You produces outstanding work, but after ten great years, it's time to move on.

"I'm excited about combining interactive alongside all forms of communication, and working with creative concepts from the beginning.

"The challenge is to integrate this thinking through a client's whole business. At W&K Amsterdam, I'm going to be helping clients think truly 360, and that's something I want to be part of."

Borgstrom will join W&K Amsterdam on 6 November.
