McLeod has transferred from VW's luxury car division, where he handled marketing for models including the Phaeton and Touareg.
Coombe, who has headed VW's UK marketing since 2001, has taken the position of head of problem resolution. The role is still being finalised, but his main focus will be on customer service across the company's brands, which include Audi, Seat and Skoda as well as VW.
The company often moves senior managers around to different roles within the group to develop their skills, and Coombe is understood to be keen to manage the VW unit in the future.
Earlier this month the car manufacturer set out to boost its customer management process. It is building a centralised customer database to improve the targeting and cross-selling of its range of financial products (Marketing, 3 November).
As part of a reorganisation, data held by Volkswagen Financial Services will be divided into five areas: finance agreements, maintenance plans, payment protection, motor insurance and GAP Insurance, which pays the remainder of a loan if the car is written off.
