Vodafone selects JWT and One Bite for retail account

Vodafone Retail has split its in-store marketing account between J Walter Thompson and One Bite Communications as it strives to achieve more consistency in its brand advertising.

It has handed JWT the task of steering retail strategy and hired One Bite for tactical delivery of point-of-sale and brochure material.

The work applies to Vodafone's 350-strong estate of branded stores as well as the 5000 other multiple outlets it sells through. Vodafone marketing manager Nicky Mackrell said it wanted to achieve better integration with its above-the-line advertising. The JWT network adapts ads from creative by Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam for individual markets.

JWT has created a below-the-line retail arm called High Street at JWT to handle its part of the Vodafone business; Vodafone is the division's founding client.

The two agencies secured the account after pitching against MI Marketing, Seven, Storm and Tango.

The brief includes communications for Vodafone's concept store in Watford.
