Vodafone denies intentions to axe Vizzavi branding

Vodafone has insisted it will stand by its Vizzavi brand, the multi-access portal it co-owns with Vivendi Universal.

The mobile telecoms operator denies that it is to scrap the brand or fold it into Vodafone's Global Products and Services division, as stated in Marketing's story last week.

Sources close to the company said Vodafone intends to drop the Vizzavi brand name, but in a statement to Marketing this week chief operating officer for the Vodafone Group, Julian Horn-Smith, said: "Vodafone Group has recently agreed and announced a new revenue model for Vizzavi. Mobile content is a key element of Vodafone's customer-focused mobile strategy, and Vizzavi is central to future developments in this respect.

"Suggestions that the Vizzavi brand will be dropped, or that Vizzavi will become part of Vodafone's Global Products and Services division, are entirely wrong."

In January, Vizzavi revised the business model to pull revenues from premium content back into the portal instead of into the parent firms.
