Bidwell, previously marketing director at Selfridges, recently oversaw the launch of Visit London's first global campaign, featuring the strapline 'See the world, Visit London', to coincide with the Olympic handover.

Urban Outfitters chief executive Glen Senk said that Bidwell is the 'perfect fit' for the brand, and has 'significant experience in brand development' with a global perspective.

It is believed that Anthropologie - owned by the Urban Outfitters chain - is searching for sites in London for its first UK store, and plans to open between 20 and 40 stores in Europe over the next five years.
