Several key anniversary events, festivals and openings will single out 2013 as the year of culture, according to national tourist board Visit England.

Monday marked the 200th anniversary of one of England’s most popular novels, Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, with celebratory events planned across the country to commemorate.

The first ever Bristol International Jazz and Blues Festival will take place in the city from 1-3 March, welcoming internationally acclaimed artists to the stage at Colston Hall.

Over the summer, Cumbrian arts organisation Eden Arts will launch a new visual arts project, CANOPY, resulting in an exhibition of artworks displayed in trees and woodland throughout the Eden Valley.

In September, Oxford will host a four-day festival acknowledging the 50th anniversary of the death of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe author CS Lewis, while Birmingham will see the opening of the new £188m Library of Birmingham – the largest in Europe, complete with a 300-seat studio.
