Virgin's Jacob to head SMG cross-platform sales division

LONDON - Scottish Media Group, the owner of Scottish and Grampian TV and Virgin Radio, is creating a cross-platform sales team to offer advertisers packages across its various companies.

Kathryn Jacob, the commercial director of Virgin Radio, will head SMG Access as managing director. In addition to TV and radio, it can offer outdoor and cinema solutions through SMG's Pearl & Dean and Primesight companies.

Jacob will continue to be involved with Virgin Radio but will relinquish her commercial director role. She will not be replaced at the radio station.

Malcolm MacMillan, the former marketing director of Scottish TV, has been appointed as director of SMG Access.

SMG Access will have offices in London and Glasgow and will be supported by a research team. It will also provide access to programme production, promotions and studio facilities. It will formalise SMG's cross-media process, which has already created campaigns for Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Boddingtons.

Jacob said: "From talking to agencies and clients, we know that they want smarter solutions to their needs and that is what SMG Access will deliver."
