Virgin One hires Barclaycard man for rebrand task

Virgin One has poached Barclaycard head of strategic marketing Colin Woodcock to be its marketing director, ahead of its proposed rebranding under owner Royal Bank of Scotland.

Woodcock will join the financial services brand as its top marketer next month, replacing Jo Barnett who took a part-time role earlier this year.

He has been at Barclaycard for more than a year, heading the launch of Barclaycard Direct, a venture that took the Barclaycard brand beyond credit cards and into insurance and loan products for the first time.

One of Woodcock's key challenges will be to oversee the rebranding of Virgin One as the Virgin Group withdraws its name from the venture. Virgin One pioneered the 'one' product, that bundles savings, current accounts and mortgages.

Royal Bank of Scotland, which paid £100m for Virgin One last year, is considering a number of options for the name, including One Account and One Finance.

Woodcock has yet to be replaced at Barclaycard. Marketing director Paul Parmenter said that an announcement would be made shortly.
