Virgin Galactic selects agents

Virgin Galactic has appointed the first 'space agents' to sell its commercial suborbital space flights, which are expected to launch in 2009.

The nine accredited agents include luxury-tour operator Elegant Resorts, which will be the only travel firm in the UK or former Soviet Union allowed to reserve seats.

The three-day package includes astronaut training and G-force acclimatisation. Passengers will travel 70 miles above the earth's surface and experience four minutes of weightlessness.

The flights will initially launch from Mojave Spaceport in California and then from Spaceport America in New Mexico, the world's first commercial spaceport. Tickets will be priced $200,000.
