Virgin breaks new ground as company takes over entire ad break for Richard Branson show

LONDON - TV history is to be made on ITV2 tonight when an entire ad break for 'Rebel Billionaire: Branson's Quest for the Best' is taken over by ads purely for Virgin brands.

The break features work by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, including the current 60-second 'Return of the train' commercial for Virgin Trains, that mixes contemporary scenes with excerpts from classic films such as 'Some Like It Hot' and 'North by Northwest'.

Other brands featured during the break are Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Megastores, Virgin Money and Virgin Mobile.

James Murphy, CEO of RKCR/Y&R, said: "It's great to create an ad break entirely from one client's work. Obviously it helps if that client is Richard Branson and the product is Virgin.  However this break creates a bit of media history and will create real presence for the Virgin brand."

The break was planned and negotiated by Manning Gottlieb OMD. It takes place during the first episode of  the reality show, which focuses on a group of young entrepreneurs undertaking an epic round the world trip based on Branson's own life adventures. One of the contestants stands to win a prize of $1m.

Swedish gaming company has been named as exclusive broadcast sponsor for the series, including break bumpers and sponsorship credits, in a deal negotiated by media company BlueStar Communications.

The first episode of 'Rebel Billionaire' is set to go out at 8.30pm this evening.
