Virgin appoints Barron as chief operating officer

LONDON - Virgin Media has named its strategy supremo Andrew Barron as chief operating officer.

Barron joined Virgin Media in March 2008 and since then has led the company's strategy development and, more recently, overseen a reorganisation of the company's customer operations and network teams.

His appointment will take effect on 4 January.

Barron brings years of experience working in the pay-TV sector. Before joining Virgin, he was previously chief executive of pan-Scandinavia pay-TV broadcaster Viasat, and chief operating officer at its parent, Modern Times Group, which operates various TV and online business in Scandinavia and eastern Europe.

Before that, he worked at pan-European pay-TV group UPC's video-on-demand operations and the Disney Channel in Europe.
