Vinnie Jones set to make debut in fashion business

He's already notorious for his outrageous behaviour on the football pitch, as a Hollywood actor and as the star of ads for One 2 One and Bacardi.

Now Vinnie Jones is to turn his hand to fashion with the launch of an upmarket clothing range.

Jones has teamed up with his friend Rob Gray, founder of Mercier Gray, to launch the Vinnie brand.

Gray, who will act as commercial director for Vinnie, has hired a management team that includes Michael Schlaeppi, a former marketer for the Full Circle clothing brand, and ex-Yo! Japan sales manager Rhys Davies.

Mercier Gray has created the brand and positioned Vinnie as a premium label competing with firms such as Paul Smith. It will target 25- to 49-year-old men.

The firm is in discussions with retailers and aims for the brand to be stocked in as many as 150 outlets.

The agency will start a six-figure campaign in August to promote the introduction of the first collection in September. It will include a national poster campaign, press ads in men's fashion and style magazines, ads on the London Underground and a web site.

Creative will feature Jones with his Jack Russell dog, whose image also features in the brand logo.
