Charlton will report to Tim Bleakley, Viacom Outdoors' joint managing director, and take a leading role within the senior management team at Viacom Outdoor.
Prior to his seven years at Opus, with his most recent role of national sales director, Charlton was London agency group head for Capital Radio.
"Viacom Outdoor is one of those enviable media companies that has just not stood still. It has always moved its business and the market forward at a pace, and this is evident by its growth achievements over the past five years," Charlton said.
During Charlton's time at Opus, he oversaw national revenue growth that outperformed the market, set up a sales team and played a key part in the development of the Opus planning awards.
"Pete's radio experience at Capital and Opus across the UK and, specifically in London, will be of great value as we look to grow and develop our proposition to help advertisers captivate consumers on the move across the UK," Bleakley added.
