Vanneck returns to The Times as sales and marketing director

LONDON - Katie Vanneck has been appointed as sales and marketing director at The Times, transferring back to her previous employer from the position of marketing director at rival The Daily Telegraph.

Her appointment follows the resignation of Simon Bell from the position last month. Bell had joined the newspaper group from magazine publisher Hachette Filipacchi in January 2006. He spent the first 12 years of his marketing career at Unilever, followed by the BBC, FT.com and Music Choice TV. He left The Times without a job to go to.

In January 2005, Vanneck, a previous rising star at Times Newspapers in the position of head of promotions, moved to the Telegraph to replace marketing director Mark Dixon.

Paul Hayes, managing director of Times Media, said: "[Katie] is a marketer with vision. We are no longer just a newspaper business; we are now a media business. The way we market ourselves needs to reflect this change and I believe that Katie has the skills to take us to the next level."

Vanneck said: "This is a great opportunity that comes at exactly the right time in my career. It gives me responsibility for all customer strategy and communication across the range of Times media platforms -- newspapers, products and digital."
