Van Outen quits Capital Radio half a year early

LONDON - Capital Radio breakfast co-host Denise Van Outen is quitting only five months into her 12-month contract because she is finding it hard to combine her early morning start with her TV obligations.

According to a report in The Sun, she is leaving the show, which she co-presents with her former Big Breakfast partner Johnny Vaughan, because "she's knackered".

A spokeswoman for Capital parent GCap Media, now part of Global Radio, declined to comment on the news.

However, it is understood that several weeks ago Van Outen approached GCap bosses to discuss her future and her contract is under discussion.

Van Outen took on the Capital slot just as she agreed to become a panellist on the BBC's 'I'd Do Anything'. Other TV commitments include ITV1's 'Who Dares Sings' and Sky One's forthcoming 'Hairspray: The School Musical'.

She has also appeared in supermarket chain Morrison's latest TV ad campaign.

According to The Sun, sources close to Van Outen said that her broadcast commitments were playing havoc with her love life with boyfriend Lee Mead, the winner of BBC's 'Any Dream Will Do', which she appeared on.

The paper said: "They only see each other properly on Sundays. She underestimated the radio show and has been trying to leave for some time."
